SARAJEVO, Nov 8 (Hina) - A lull ensued in the Sarajevo northwestern
sections near the Airport after 22:00 last night where fierce
fighting had been erupted between the Bosnian Army and Serb forces
at 20:20 hrs Monday.
The commander of UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR) for Sarajevo
Section, General Gubilliard last night made contact with Bosnian
Army and Bosnian Serb representatives, adamantly demanding to
cease the clashes. He also requested NATO airplanes should fly over
Sarajevo, as a measure of warning, UNPROFOR sources said.
The conflict had erupted first along the line of separation
between the Bosnian Army troops and the Serb forces near the suburb
of Ilidza. The exchange of intensified mortar fire took place and,
infantry fighting followed, a UNPROFOR spokesman, Koos Sol, said
last night.
The nearby Sarajevo airport also came under mortar fire, the
French UN peace keepers controlling the airport said. No reports on
material damage were issued.
At about 21:00 hrs last night one cannon round hit the area
near the "PTT" building the 'blue helmets' were accommodated.
Sarajevo saw relatively calm night afterwards, Sol said.
UNPROFOR representatives were to investigate the last night
evening's incidents. The investigation results were expected to be
published today.
