CROATIAN AND YUGOSLAV STANDPOINTS AHEAD OF ZAGREB TALKS

ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Hina) - Ahead of today's talks with Yugoslav Foreign Minister Vladislav Jovanovic, Minister Granic laid out Croatia's standpoint in the forthoming series of talks. According to Granic, mutual recognition within the internationally recognised borderes was the keystone of the normalisation of relations. This included a peaceful reintegration of occupied Croatian areas and the regulation of the status of ethnic minorities in both states in line with UN Security Council resolutions, the Croatian Constitution, the Human and Minority Rights Act and President Tudjman's peace initiative, Minister Granic said on Wednesday. Minister Jovanovic repeatedly said he expected the meeting to deal with concrete issues such as the resumption of telecommunications and cooperation in the field of transport, culture, education and sport. Jovanovic linked this series of talks with the possibility of lifting trade sanctions against Yugoslavia. "We believe the meeting will help both sides resolve such issues as will not preempt a political settlement," he told the Belgrade Independent TV on Wednesday. The talks began at 10:00 hours by a preliminary meeting between the two ministers and the co-chairmen of the Peace Conference on Former Yugoslavia, Lord Owen and Thorvald Stoltenberg. Croatian and Yugoslav delegations are to join the talks later on. The Croatian side will be represented by the head of the National Security Office, Krunoslav Olujic, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivo Sanader, head of the Croatian office in Belgrade Zvonimir Markovic, head of the office for succession affairs, Bozo Marendic and foreign ministry officials Ivan Simonovic, Miroslav Medimorec and Ivana Moric. The Yugoslav delegation includes the head of the Yugoslav Office in Zagreb, Veljko Knezevic, head of the foreign minister's Cabinet Vlado Nadazdin, head of the delegation to the Conference on Former Yugoslavia, Vojislav Milenkovic, and adviser at the Yugoslav office in Zagreb, Momir Radosavljevic.
