BELGRADE, Aug 8 (Hina) - Head of the Serbian Orthodox Church,
Patriarch Paul, arrived unexpectedly on Monday at the Bosnian Serb
stronghold of Pale to discuss Belgrade's severance of ties with
them.
The talks, which took three hours, were held behind closed
doors.
Patriarch Paul told reporters after the meeting he had come to
promote general peace.
Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic was more blunt. He
repeated that the Bosnian Serbs were determined to go their own
way.
"Yugoslavia should realise this, and the international
community must accept the reality and recognise the Bosnian Serb
republic," Karadzic said.
"Only then shall we decide which territories we might return."
According to Belgrade's independent media, all of Serbia's
bishops convened today to discuss relations between Serbia and the
Bosnian Serbs. No official statement has been released from the
conference, but it is believed that Patriarch Paul really visited
Pale to tell the Bosnian Serbs about what was decided at the
bishops' conference.
