CROAT PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION ON MANDATE OF UNPROFOR

ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - Opposition members of both Houses of the Croatian Parliament on Thursday held a debate on the UNPROFOR mission in Croatia in the House of Parliament. Members of the Craotian Social Liberal Party, Croatian Farmers' Party, Croatian National Party, Croatian Independent Democrats, Croatian Social- Democratic Party, Istrian Democratic Alliance and several independent members adopted a joint Statement on the UNPROFOR mandate in Croatia. A working group is to draft a resolution on the basis of the Statement and the members' suggestions. Recalling that the Parliament had not been consulted about the UNPROFOR mandate and that the documents that were signed had never been published or submitted to the Parliament, the statement propounds that the Parliament should set up a commission to ascertain all relevant facts about UNPROFOR's arrival and mission. The statement calls for investigating the responsibility of all those involved in the negotiations about the current UNPROFOR mandate, and particularly in suspending the Croatian constitutional and legal system in the occupied areas bypassing the Parliament. Branding President Tudjman's policy toward Serbia as "not good for Croatia's national interest," the statement underlines that the acceptance of a peace plan for Bosnia-Herzegovina should be given on condition that Croatia's occupied areas are to be peacefully reintegrated into its legal and constitutional system. 141959 MET jul 94
