VIS, June 14 (Hina) - A new refugee centre was opened on the
southern Croatian island of Vis on Tuesday.
The Samogor refugee centre was financed by the Italian
government through the humanitarian section of the Italian embassy
in Zagreb. About 1.7 million DM was invested for the renovation of
a former army barracks. The centre can house 500 refugees.
At the opening ceremony, Italian Ambassador Paolo Pensa said
that "this effort indicates the continuity of good relations
between our countries, something the new Italian government will
try to preserve."
