FOREIGN POLICY COMMISSION MEETS AHEAD OF PARLIAMENT SESSION

ZAGREB, May 16 (Hina) - Deputy Foreign Minister Smiljan Simac and Croatian ambassadors to international organisations Miomir Zuzul, Mario Nobilo, Ante Cicin-Sain and Darko Bekic on Monday submitted a report on current foreign policy issues to the Commission on Internal Affairs, Foreign Policy and National Security of the House of Counties. Deputy Foreign Minister Smiljan Simac expounded the guidelines of the Croatian foreign policy, describing Croatia's international position since the signing of the Washington agreement as "eminently satisfactory." Ambassadors Bekic and Cicin-Sain subscribed to this opinion, while Ambassador Nobilo stressed the need for "defeating certain subterranean forces in Herzeg-Bosnia which are working against the implementation of the Croat-Moslem agreement." Ambassador Zuzul said Croatia's position was better but also "more slippery and dangerous" than it had ever been. "Croatia's primary strategic interest is to sustain and strengthen the Federation of Croats and Moslems," Zuzul said. Asked about the details of the expected foreign financial assistance to Croatia, Ambassador Cicin-Sain explained that the expected amout was US$ 500 million, extended by several international financial institutions through various schemes and projects. 161719 MET may 94
