DELEGATION OF COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN ISTRIA

OPATIJA, May 8 (Hina) - During its visit to Croatia a delegation of the Council of Europe's Standing Conference on Regional and Local Authorities was today received by the presidential council of the Association of Cities and Municipalities of Istria (Croatian largest peninsula). Their meeting was held on Sunday in the town of Opatija. Representatives of the local municipalities of Istria and eminent guests discussed the organization of local authorities on this Croatian peninsula. They also talked about the protection of rights of national minorities in Istria. The Council of Europe's delegation informed the hosts of the reorganization of the Standing Conference on Regional and Local Authorities and possibilities that Croatian representative would join the newly established organization. The delegation gave support to the Istrian cities and municipalities in their endeavours to establish cooperation with the cities and municipalities in the neighbouring Republic of Slovenia in accordance with the standards of the Council of Europe. 081537 MET may 94
