SPLIT, Apr 16 (Hina) - The Croatian navy's commander, Admiral Sveto
Letica, received today UNPROFOR Commander for the area of Dalmatia
(southern Croatia), Brigadier Ian Rees. The meeting was held today
in Split at the request of Admiral Letica, in order to discuss
relations between Croatian civilian and military authorities and
UNPROFOR in the area under responsibility of the Croatian navy
(HRM). The meeting was convened because of the Croatian army's
official protest. The protest was lodged with UNPROFOR due to an
incident in the town of Bol on the island of Brac when two UNPROFOR
members, under the influence of alcohol, had pulled down and
damaged a Croatian flag.
At the talks UNPROFOR Commander for Dalmatia, Brigadier Rees,
expressed regret and apologized because of the incident on Brac. He
informed Admiral Letica that UNPROFOR had already sent a letter of
apology to the civilian police of Brac.
Their talks revolved also around possibilities for better
cooperation between UNPROFOR and Croatian navy and civilian
authorities in that area.
After the meeting Brigadier Rees said "We have held very
friendly and useful talks this morning."
