ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - Shortly after noon on Tuesday, a Spanish
UN aircraft took off from Zagreb airport for the southern coastal
town of Split, and while flying over the Serb-controlled Plasko
area it came under fire from the ground. Two rockets were fired,
one missed the target and the other exploded near it, damaging the
plane's tail. It is quite certain that the rockets were fired by
Serb rebel forces of the so-called 39 Banija Corps, said the
Croatian defence ministry in a statement Tuesday evening.
Four crewmen and five passengers were aboard the plane, and
three persons were slightly injured. The rockets were launched at
12:35 hours.
The plane made an emergency landing at Krk airport (on the
northern Adriatic island of Krk) at 12:52 hours, the statement
concluded.
