SARAJEVO, Feb 1 (Hina) - Special Envoy of the U.N. Secretary-
General Yasushi Akashi met today in Sarajevo with Bosnian President
Alija Izetbegovic and Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic. They
discussed political solutions to the Bosnian crisis, the opening of
the Tuzla airport and humanitarian issues, reported B-H Radio.
At the end of the meeting Izetbegovic said that Bosnian
Government was for peace but not for peace at all costs.
After his talks with Prime Minister Silajdzic, Akashi said
that he was informed about the investigation into the murder of a
British humanitarian worker in Zenica and that he was satisfied
with its results.
Special Envoy Akashi explained that the two sides discussed
the replacement of UNPROFOR troops stationed in Srebrenica as well
as a draft project for the opening of the Tuzla airport. The
project is to be presented to all three sides, which should give
their consent to it.
Yasushi Akashi said that he was satisfied with today's talks
but also aware of a "formidable challenge".
Prime Minister Silajdzic said that the two sides discussed
removal of UNHCR head office from Zagreb to Sarajevo and exchanged
views on the "presence of regular Croatian Army forces on
territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina". Stressing that the Bosnian
government was the only legitimate representative of B-H as U.N.
member, Silajdzic said that Security Council resolutions must be
implemented in Bosnia.
