LJUBLJANA, Jan 3 (Hina) - Madeleine Albright, the American
Ambassador to the United Nations and special envoy of President
Clinton, is going to visit Slovenia on January 14. The Slovene
Government Information Office reported on Monday that the visit was
announced in President Clinton's personal message to Slovene
Premier Drnovsek. The message is linking this visit with NATO
summit that will be held soon in Brussels. That summit will bring
some important decisions about relations of NATO members with new
democratic states in the Middle and Eastern Europe.
In past year Slovene Parliament adopted a special resolution that
expressed its interest for joining with NATO and West European
Union. Slovene Defence Minister Janez Jansa said that he hopes NATO
might offer a cooperation to Slovenia and maybe even full
membership in the framework of the new doctrine "Partnership for
Peace".
