CROATIAN PREMIER TALKS WITH BUSINESSMEN OF SPLIT-DALMATIA COUNTY

SPLIT, May 6 (Hina) - Croatian Premier Nikica Valentic, who arrived in Split as a special envoy of President Tudjman at the celebration of the city's Patron Saint "St. Duje", held a session with dozens of businessmen in Split-Dalmatia County this evening. The meeting was attended by Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic, Reconstruction and Development Minister Jure Radic, Trade Minister Nadan Vidosevic and Minister Niko Bulic as well as the director of Croatian Bank for Reconstruction, Antun Kovacev and director of the Croatian Roads, Aleksandar Caklovic and many high officials. The county's chamber of commerce head, Tomislav Cicek, submitted a report on the economic situation in central Dalmatia. Premier Valentic said he was aware that the area was facing numerous problems such as traffic isolation, lack of power supplies, the nearby presence of the Serbian aggressors, and economic troubles such as the open question of the 'Splitska Bank' and debits of big companies. Valentic announced that the Croatian government was to financially rehabilitate the 'Splitska Bank' in next 30 days. He added that this issue showed to be not only economic but also political. Speaking of preparations for coming tourist season Valentic expressed hope and belief that the season would be successful, whereas the temporary uneasiness on tourist markets as regards Croatia's opportunities for summer holidays after limited police action in western Slavonia should fade away until the peak of the tourist season, since Croatia was not going to wage any war, Valentic emphasized.
