SARAJEVO, May 6 (Hina) - The negotiations between UN Protection
Force and Bosnian Serbs on the Sarajevo airport have been canceled
today. The Serb officials had announced that negotiations could
resume next week, Sarajevo UN command said.
UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said the UN seat in New York had
been already displeased over the blockade, and it would probably
come to a Security Council agenda soon.
UN officials recalled that the airport was given over to "blue
helmets" primarily because of humanitarian aid delivery. The food
warehouses in Sarajevo were still not empty, officials said, while
some supplies have been brought in by a surface route.
Repeatedly shooting at the UN-labelled cargo planes and thus
exposing the UN command to threat, Bosnian Serbs managed to close
up the airport a month ago. Serbs, who had given over the airport
to UN in June 1992, said they would allow only UN military
personnel to use the air-lift, while UNPROFOR has persisted on
using it under previous terms.
