ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament's Committee for peaceful
reintegration of occupied areas today discussed the yesterdays
visit of some Committee members to western Slavonia.
A member of the Committee, Mirko Tankosic, ethnic Serb and
member of Croatian People's Party (HNS) said "the operation in
western Slavonia had been accomplished competently, and no
international conventions were violated."
The action had showed Croatia's determination to protect its
territory and citizens, Tankosic said, adding that apparent concern
for the citizens of Serb ethnic identity could be taken as a
pattern for peaceful reintegration.
"Croatia has proved to the international community its ability
to exert such an action in civilized manner," Tankosic concluded.
Snjezana Biga-Friganovic, also an ethnic Serb and member of
Social Democratic Party (SDP), said some groups of Serbs who had
fled the area, were coming back to their homes.
