A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, April 12 (Hina) - "Russia's Commitment to Croatia's Integrity" is a front-page headline of today's VJESNIK for its report on a Croatian parliamentary delegation's visit to Moscow. The daily quotes Russian 'Duma' Speaker Ivan Ripkin as saying that Russian diplomacy supports the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian areas, which are now under control of rebel Serbs. Writing about talks between Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic and his Albanian counterpart Alfred Serreqi yesterday in Zagreb the daily carries their joint statement, pointing out a part of which saying "the Greater Serbia's aggression has been the main cause of the crisis in the region, and the prerequisites for the crisis's resolution are the mutual recognition of all countries in the region and respect for the ethnic communities' and minorities' rights. Commenting on the EU Ministerial Council's statement on Croatia, issued in Luxembourg, a VJESNIK correspondent, Mirko Galic, says Europe has made a step forward to Croatia. The EU Ministerial Council has not only given go-ahead for talks with Croatia on a trade and cooperation accord, which could foster relations between Zagreb and Brussels, but it has also expressed 'positive opinion' on Croatia's admittance to the PHARE programme, Galic says. In an inquiry how UNCRO will control Croatia's international recognized borders the other daily VECERNJI LIST today publishes an interview with Croatian General Anton Tus, a military adviser to President Tudjman. In the interview headlined "The Border Control in Accordance with Croatian Laws" Gen. Tus says Croatia's goal is not that UNCRO should only register who passes the state border and send monthly reports on the matter to its command, just like UNPROFOR used to do. What we want is the full control of the border and prevention of any military transfer across it, he adds. A daily columnist, Visnja Staresina, comments on the latest "pilgrimage" of Contact Group officials to Sarajevo, Belgrade and Zagreb in an article headlined "Recognition Step-by-Step ?". She raises a question what the Contact Group is to offer Milosevic who has rejected unequivocally the Juppe initiative on the mutual recognition of the new countries. The daily caries an interview with the head of the Croatian state archives, Josip Kolanovic, with the headline "What Do the (Communist) Party's Documents Hide?". (hina) mms 121115 MET apr 95
