PRESIDENT TUDJMAN TALKS WITH LIKA-SENJ COUNTY AUTHORITIES

GOSPIC, April 8 (Hina) - During a visit to Gospic and Lika-Senj County on Saturday Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and a delegation of senior state officials talked with authorities of the County and representatives of local self-government about the current issues and problems of the Gospic town and Lika-Senj County. The talks, conducted behind the closed doors, were also attended by Zadar-Knin County and Zadar town officials.The talks pointed out the manpower and experts shortage. The participants discussed war damage inflicted to the area, a statement said. The Croatian Army commander for the Gospic district, Brigadier Mirko Norac, told President Tudjman and the delegation about good relations between the Army and civilian authorities and citizens, emphasizing that Croatian Army was helping in the reconstruction and development of the County. Norac said that officers as well as rank and file were implementing the state united policies. He spoke of the construction of 200 flats in Gospic for families of the killed Croatian soldiers and disabled ex-service men from the Homeland War as well as for staff and of another 100 flats in Otocac. The superintendent of the County police, Ivan Dasovic, spoke of the security situation in the area. He added that in the last year 60 per cent of crimes was solved. The talks focused on telephone communication, reconstruction of the municipal utilities and livestock as well as on other important issues. Croatian Prime Minister Nikica Valentic pointed out good relations inside the County, and asked the County authorities to offer programmes for the development, while the Government would assist in their implementation. President Tudjman said that Croatian people should have self- confidence, and that they would have Croatia as a country of prosperity and happiness, according to the statement.
