SARAJEVO, March 30 (Hina) - A Dutch UNPROFOR soldier was killed
last night in an attack on an UNPROFOR observer post near Sapna,
northern Bosnia.
UNPROFOR spokesman in Sarajevo, Alexander Ivanko, said the
observer post had been shelled with two artillery or mortar
projectiles. One of the shells exploded in the vicinity of the
observer post, killing the Dutch soldier.
The attack was launched at 9.40 p.m., but the UN spokesman in
Sarajevo could not say who was responsible for it.
Ivanko reminded that in the last couple of months UNPROFOR
observer points and bases in Bosnia-Herzegovina had frequently been
targets of attacks. He added that yesterday a large number of
detonations in the Northeast of Bosnia was monitored.
Two more UN observer posts were attacked yesterday near
Kalesija and Doboj, but there were no casualties in these attacks.
The Dutch soldier, whose name was not reported, is the 84th
member of the Protection Forces killed in Bosnia-Herzegovina since
their arrival in 1992.
Warring sides in Bosnia-Herzegovina were still engaged in
fierce fighting, the UN spokesman said.
