U.N. SAYS SECTOR WEST RAILWAY LINE COULD OPEN IN MID APRIL
PAKRAC, March 28 (Hina) - A stretch of the Zagreb-Tovarnik railway
line running through UN Sector West of Croatia could open to
traffic in mid April, UN Sector West spokeswoman Susan Manuel today
told a press conference in Pakrac.
Manuel said UN personnel provided security for Croatian repair
crews working in the Serb-occupied area, emphasizing that each
worker was guarded by two UN soldiers.
Asked who financed the repair of the railway line, Manuel said
it was yet to be decided who would pay for the most expensive
repair operations. She added that material had been provided by the
Croatian side.
Commenting on the presence of armed Serbs along the Zagreb-
Lipovac highway in Sector West, she said it was because Serbs were
nervous over a new UN mandate.
