CROAT MP INJURED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT AT ZAGREB-LIPOVAC HIGHWAY

ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Ivan Jarnjak briefed the House of Representatives about last night's traffic accident in which a parliamentary member, Ante Prkacin, was badly injured. Minister Jarnjak submitted the report at the request of the session chairman. Jarnjak said that at about 7 pm last night Prkacin's vehicle collided with another car with the Okucani register number (from the occupied area) at the Zagreb-Lipovac highway section through UNPA West and then skidded off the road. Prkacin who suffered a scull fracture and sinus contusion was admitted to the Nova Gradiska hospital. Fortunately, he is now out of critical condition, Jarnjak said. The accident occurred when a driver in the Okucani car was trying to turn around the car in a semicircle at the highway and thus obstructed the movement of Prkacin's car. The investigation into the accident was now going on, Jarnjak said. A Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) deputy, Mladen Vilfan, said that he saw Prkacin's damaged car and the car with Okucani register number that hindered on the road, when he was driving along the highway section and passing by the scene of accident. Vilfan said that UNPROFOR vehicles and cars with register numbers from the occupied Croatian areas could be spotted quite often turning in semicircles on the Zagreb-Lipovac highway. Therefore the Interior Ministry should impose discipline along the highway. (hina) jn rv mms 141529 MET mar 95
