CROATIAN PRESIDENT MEETS CROATS FROM DENMARK, SWEDEN

COPENHAGEN, March 11 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman last night in Copenhagen met representatives of the Croatian communities from Denmark and Sweden and Croatian Embassy officials. "We intend to cooperate with the international community and relevant European and international political factors in pursuit of a solution that will help accelerate the reintegration of occupied areas into Croatia's administrative system," Tudjman said. Tudjman said that ideas to reincorporate Croatia into a new Yugoslav federation had been floated during recent talks. "We have endured pressure behind which some even denied Croatia its independence," he stressed. Tudjman said the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and Russia exerted pressure on Croatia to reverse its decision on ending the UN Protection Force mandate. "We haven't given up and we won't, but we have given assurances to the world that we don't want a war," Tudjman said. "We have also made it clear that under no conditions will we tolerate the occupation of our territories and that all our efforts, including this step to cancel the UNPROFOR mandate, are aimed at restoring the occupied areas as soon as possible," he said. Tudjman estimated that the international position of Croatia would be even stronger after the current period of crisis. "Croatia will emerge stronger from this period of crisis, which has been allegedly triggered by our terminating the UNPROFOR mandate, and with even more friends and reputation because the world will see that our judgement was accurate, as it was when we agreed that the unnatural Yugoslav community should collapse and as it is now when we believe that relationships in former Yugoslavia should be established only between sovereign nations," Tudjman concluded.
