A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, March 6 (Hina) - "Support of Diaspora to Croatian Policies" is VJESNIK's front-page headline of an article referring to Croatian President Franjo Tudjman's meeting with the head of the Croatian American Congress, Lidija Dorkin-Grahovac, and the director of the Croatian Emigrants' Union, Ante Beljo, yesterday in Zagreb. Today's VJESNIK said the Zagreb talks showed support to the Croatian American Congress and the Croatian American Association that lobby Croatia. Announcing today's visit of US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke to Zagreb where he would talk with Croatian President Tudjman as well as with Foreign and Defence Ministers, Granic and Susak respectively, VJESNIK raised the question which messages America was sending to Croatia. Ahead of the Copenhagen Summit for Social Development the daily's journalist, G. Tintor, wrote that this conference was to tackle most important global questions such as poverty, unemployment and other social waxing problems. The daily carried a report on the reconstruction of the Crno village in the Zadar hinterland. Switzerland had invested 3.5 million German mark in repair works in the southern Croatian village, and the way of reconstructing Crno could show how difficult it would be for Croatia to reconstruct other war-stricken areas, the daily said. The other daily VECERNJI LIST carried a front-page headline "The Government Wants Healthy Economy", and added that Croatian Prime Minister Valentic asked the Parliament, trade unions and the public to support the restructuring of the economy. "No Discussion on the Z-4 Plan" is the headline of an interview of Croatian Parliament Speaker Nedjeljko Mihanovic with VECERNJI LIST. Mihanovic said the plan was unacceptable not only for Croatian Constitution but also for European and world constitutions. "No country would adopt such a plan, and all countries have their national minorities," Mihanovic added. In an article headlined "Rally for Peace", the daily's journalist, V. Muzina, said Croatia's citizens of Serb nationality voiced more loudly their support to the peaceful reintegration of the occupied territories into the Croatian legal system. He added that the steering committee of the organization of Serb citizens in Rijeka for the peaceful reintegration announced a rally on Tuesday in Rijeka for expressing their support to the peaceful reintegration of UNPAs into Croatian legal and constitutional system. The committee called on all Serb citizens to participate in the rally and to show their support to peace and the return of displaced people and refugees to homes. Letters from the rally were expected to be sent to ambassadors of USA, Russian Federation, Germany, France and Great Britain. (hina) mar mms 061118 MET mar 95
