ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - Croatian Defence Minister Gojko Susak
today sent a letter to the commander of the UN Protection Force
for former Yugoslavia, General Bertrand de Lapresle, regarding
the impending withdrawal of UN peacekeepers from Croatia.
Susak said that the situation following the cancellation of
the UNPROFOR mandate in Croatia would call for closer cooperation
on the ground, suggesting that all contacts with the Defence
Ministry and the Croatian army headquarters be made through the
Defence Ministry Office for the UN and EU.
The Office would be open 24 hours a day seven days a week
and was willing to provide full cooperation.
The Office could be of great assistance in drawing up a plan
for UNPROFOR's pullout of Croatia since it was involved in an
equally difficult task of deploying and accommodating UN
personnel at the start of their mission, Susak wrote.
