ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The implementation of the cessation of
hostilities agreement must be complemented by 'renewed diplomatic
initiatives and political negotiations', UN special envoy, Yasushi
Akashi, said in a statement released today.
Akashi said he was pleased so far with the achivements of the
implementation of the agreement in Bosnia, which was signed in
December by the Bosnian government, Bosnian Serb leaders and
Bosnian Croats.
Since mid-January, there had been less then 15 violations each
day, and on many days less than six, Akashi said.
The agreement had opened paths towards a better future for the
people of Bosnia-Herzegovina and provided a unique opportunity for
negotiating an end to the conflict.
UNPROFOR had played its part in stabilizing the situation on
the ground, Akashi said.
"There is no time to lose for the political process to move
foward," he concluded.
