SARAJEVO, Jan 31 (Hina) - UNPROFOR Commander in Bosnia-Herzegovina,
General Michael Rose, today left Sarajevo, ending a year-long
mission in the area.
Speaking to journalists at Sarajevo airport, Rose said the
'blue helmets' deployed in Bosnia in the past year, had achieved
significant results.
He said the greatest challenge facing his successor, Rupert
Smith, was maintaining and reinforcing the peace process.
The blue helmets were in need of more technical equipment
while the level of manpower was satisfactory, Rose said.
He added that in latest developments there had been no real
conflict between UNPROFOR and the NATO alliance.
Asked if he had received any thanks from the Bosnian
Government at the end of his mission, Rose said a satisfactory
reward came from ordinary folk who understood the immense efforts
of UNPROFOR.
He said he did not resent Bosnian Government officials, as the
Bosnian Government was desperately fighting for the survival of its
land.
"Some of them are even good friends of mine," Rose said.
