WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Hina) - The US Administration believes that for
it to unilaterally lift the arms embargo against Bosnia-Herzegovina
would be a mistake.
Asked about Senator Bob Dole's proposal to lift the arms ban,
State Department spokesman, Mike McCurry, said Wednesday that a
discussion on the unilateral lifting of the ban would not be "a
prudent move" at the moment.
McCurry said he hoped that the four-month cessation of
hostilities agreement in Bosnia would develop into a discussion on
the peace settlement, in line with the plan devised by the Five-
Nation Contact Group for Bosnia.
There were no doubts that the arms embrago inflicted injustice
on the Bosnian Government, he said, adding that the USA urged the
multilateral lifting of the arms ban.
He confirmed an overflow of weapons from Serbia to Bosnian
Serbs across the border and 'through the back door' via occupied
Croatian areas.
