OSIJEK, Dec 20 (Hina) - The Croatian government Office for the
establishment of Croatian authority in the Croatian Danubian area
(which is under UNTAES control), issued a statement of Friday,
saying that the programme of "sponsored visits" had begun on 15
December, which the Office fully supported. #L#
The programme of "sponsored visits" is implemented in such a
way that persons who want to enter the UNTAES-administered area, or
exit it, can arrive at checkpoints on roads between Osijek and
Vukovar, Bilje or Mirkovci, and cross to the other side where a
"sponsor" would await them.
Before entering or exiting the area, the "sponsor" and the
visitor will be registered with the Transitional Police.
Visits were possible between 7.00 and 16.30 hours, and the
only condition for crossing checkpoints was to own an
identification card, the statement said.
The statement concludes by saying that the visits were carried
out on one's own responsibility.
