"You have a goal and meaning to life which is raising children
to be as proud, courageous and brave as their fathers," Kosor said,
adding that they would receive assistance from the state through
the Law on the rights of soldiers and members of their families.
On behalf of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Njavro
expressed conviction that the next conference would take place in
Vukovar.
Speaking about the Law on the rights of soldiers and their
families, Bobetko said that "the state of Croatia has for the first
time adopted a law for which MP's of all parties had voted," adding
that the law had been a test of morality and national
responsibility.
Calling the members of the Association to be patient, Bobetko
said the Committee he leads would have a task of establishing
whether the law was being implemented and how.
Speaking about the work of the Association last year, its
president Neda Balog said that the Association worked in 42 towns
and gathered 3,029 members.
Stressing that the biggest problems were found in housing,
Balog said that 2,621 families still had not been taken care of.
There was also a large number of children who need additional
medical assistance, she said.
The financial plan and programme for the work of the
Association in 1997 had been adopted at the conference.
