ZAGREB, Dec 13 (Hina) - The European Parliament on Thursday
expressed deep concern about the events regarding the Zagreb
radio station Radio 101.
In a resolution passed Thursday night, it reminded the
Croatian government that "membership of the Council of Europe is
directly linked to clear commitments in the field of media
plurality and that the existence of independent media is
fundamental to the functioning of a truly democratic society."
The resolution called on the Croatian Telecommunications
Council to "renew Radio 101's permit to broadcast before it runs
out on 15 January 1997."
The European Parliament instructed its president to forward
this resolution to the Council of Europe, the European Commission
and the Croatian government and parliament.
The resolution was proposed by Greens, leftist, liberal and
radical deputies.
