According to the agreement, the basic salary of workers in
those three sectors, which now amounts to 843,60 kuna (241 German
marks), would be raised by 5% as of 1 January 1997, as of 1 July by
another 10% and as of 1 October by another 3%.
The Government and the unions agreed that salaries in state
and public services in 1998 would register a speedier increase than
the gross national product.
The same agreement was offered to other trade unions gathering
employees in public services. In case they failed to accept it, the
Government would raise their salaries by 5% as of 1 January, 1997,
but there would be no more increases in their salaries during 1997,
Vice Premier Ljerka Mintas-Hodak said.
