SARAJEVO, 3 Dec (Hina) - The withdrawal of Bosnian Serb
representatives from arbitration to decide the status of the north-
eastern Bosnian town of Brcko will not have any legal effect as the
Bosnian Serb authorities at Pale agreed to arbitration when they
signed the Dayton agreement, said Colum Murphy, spokesman for Carl
Bildt's office in Sarajevo, on Tuesday. #L#
According to the Dayton agreement, an arbitration commission
is to decide on the borderline between the two entities in Bosnia
in the area of Brcko.
The arbitration commission, comprised of representatives from
both entities and U.S. arbiter Roberts Owen, is an independent body
which is authorized to make the final decision on the status of
Brcko.
Murphy refuted a claim by the Serb side on the partiality of
the international community in solving the status of Brcko.
No one wants a solution which would be detrimental to any of
the sides. Brcko is a strategic question and an unjust solution
could cause new tensions, Murphy said.
