UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said on Friday that during
Thursday's meeting with International Police commissioner Peter
Fitzgerald, Kijac had refuted statements that among his police
officers there were those who were suspected of war crimes.
It was previously established that at least four Bosnian
Serbs, against whom the ICTY had issued indictments, were working
at a police station in Prijedor in north-western Bosnia.
Kijac also told Fitzgerald that he did not consider ICTY
indictments sufficient, adding that he refused to carry out arrests
on the grounds of such indictments.
Ivanko could not say whether the resignation of Dragan Kijac
would be requested, which Fitzgerald is authorized to do.
