SARAJEVO RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST DIVISION OF BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

SARAJEVO, Nov 26 (Hina) - A big crowd of women, who had protested against the division of Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday morning, later lunged at a car of a deputy to the international High Representative, Michael Steiner, in the Sarajevo downtown. Following the end of the protest rally, demonstrators headed for the National Museum building where a session of Bosnia- Herzegovina's three-person presidency was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. However, the protesters stopped outside the office of the international High Representative, Carl Bildt, just when Steiner was leaving it. Steiner's body guards managed to escort him into a bullet- proof car, but the car was surrounded by a crowd. The demonstrators started to shake the car and hurled insults at Steiner and the international community. The car hardly managed to leave the spot after ten minutes of commotion. Then a quite number of local police arrived there, who had not been present at the beginning of the incident. Presently, demonstrators continued to walk toward the Presidency building and impeded the traffic along the main street. The rally, where several thousand mostly young women and men gathered, was organized by a POWs association. It was addressed by the association's representatives and Irfan Ajanovic, one of the (Moslem-led) SDA party's leaders. Ajanovic said it's high time that the Dayton agreements were fully implemented. "If there is no (implemented) Dayton accords, we will return to the position before them, or virtually in a state of war," Ajanovic told the rally. (hina) jn mš 261639 MET nov 96
