PILLAR IN TUNNEL UNDER SARAJEVO AIRPORT BECOMES LOOSE

SARAJEVO, Nov 19 (Hina) - A partial restriction of air flights has been introduced in the Sarajevo airport due to a sag on a section of the runway. The sag had been caused by loose pillars in one of the tunnels beneath the runway which used to connect the occupied Sarajevo with the free territory during the war, IFOR spokesman Simon Haselock told Tuesday's news conference in Sarajevo.
#L# The Bosnia-Herzegovina Civil-Aviation Management and IFOR estimated that the last 600 metres of the south-east section of the runway, which is two kilometres long, could not be used until the damage is repaired. Haselock said that aircraft for the use of IFOR would continue to land on the airstrip, as well as most types of civil aircraft. The damaged tunnel was built in 1993. The other tunnel, which is much wider and was completed near the end of the war is in good shape. (hina) lm jn 191403 MET nov 96
