The delegation informed Kosor about the preparations for
marking 18 November, the day when Vukovar became a symbol of
Croatian suffering and resistance, and about the extension of the
UNATES mandate in the Croatian Danubian area till 15 July next
year.
Stengl said the day would be commemorated with dignity and
respect. Wreaths will be laid at the Homeland altar and at the
Mirogoj cemetery, and a mass will be served.
Stengl reiterated his appeal to the citizens of Croatia to
light candles on that day at 19.00 hours, and place them on window
sills.
Speaking about the extension of the UNTAES mandate, Kosor
asked the displaced persons to have patience, stressing that the
town's representatives and associations had an obligation to
explain to displaced persons that "this was not an indefinite
extension of the mandate, because the end is visible and we need to
persevere".
"We realize that Croatia is in the limelight and we will try
to act accordingly," Stengl said.
President of the Vukovar town council, Peter Mlinaric, said
that in talks with the Serb side, there had to be a representative
from Vukovar, as well as in the government commission for the
implementation of elections.
