MOSTAR, Nov 12 (Hina) - The Bosnian Croat special police unit is
no longer operational although it is still stationed in its
building in west Mostar, the commander of the International
Police Task Force in Mostar, Frank Server, said on Tuesday.
IPTF and IFOR troops inspected the building and members of
the special police unit on Monday night and did not find any
long-barrelled weapons, Server said, adding that for this reason
IFOR did not have to intervene today.
He stressed that only side arms had been found during the
inspection.
IPTF chief Peter Fitzgerald on Tuesday sent a letter to the
Bosnian Federation's Deputy Interior Minister, Jozo Leutar,
requesting that the special police unit of west Mostar take a
test for the Federation police force.
If they pass the test, they would be included in local
police forces, Server said.
