During the first meeting of the highest military
representatives of the two countries, Cervenko and Majcen agreed on
cooperation in the fields of education and training, reciprocal
attendance at military exercises as well as on cooperation in the
field of military medicine and education.
After the talks, Majcen said the Austrian army wanted to
continue expert talks in the area of military medicine, as well as
the talks on international security policy.
'During the next year, we will meet to see whether we can
prepare a framework agreement, which will then be signed by our
ministers', Majcen said.
General Cervenko stressed differences between the two armies,
adding that the Austrian army had not been involved in military
conflicts for a long period of time, while the Croatian army had
been established during a military conflict.
'Our problems are different, but our aims are quite similar -
we want to establish closer ties through various cooperation
conditions, and we want to enable the Croatian army to contribute
to its country on its way to democracy, state of law and
integration into Western Europe', Cervenko said.
