CROATIAN PRESIDENTIAL COUNCIL BEGINS SESSION ON TOURISM

ZAGREB, Sept 24 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Tuesday opened a session of the Presidential Council on the state and prospects of Croatian tourism. Tudjman emphasized that tourism was one of the most important business sectors because "it integrates production and export elements of the economy." "Croatia has achieved substantial results in the tourist industry this year, but they are still below its possibilities," he said. The President said that tourist revenues could double and even triple in the coming years but that it was necessary to remove all drawbacks. Attending the session were representatives of the parliamentary Economic Affairs Committee, the Government, county prefects, the Chamber of Commerce, the Tourist Association and the Association of Hoteliers. The session would be addressed by Deputy Prime Minister Borislav Skegro, Tourism Minister Niko Bulic, Privatization Minister Ivan Penic, National Bank Governor Marko Skreb and Reconstruction and Development Bank Director Antun Kovacev.
