ZAGREB, Sept 20 (Hina) - Four young men who were allegedly involved
in a brawl with British IFOR troops two weeks ago were arrested in
Split on Friday morning. One of the participants in the brawl,
Simon Jeans from Hampshire, Britain, died of injuries on Tuesday.
The investigation was initiated by Split police but was handed
over to the Military Investigative Magistrate when it turned out
that one of the suspects was a Croatian army soldier.
"Our next task is to interrogate a number of witnesses,
including several Britons, many of whom are in Bosnia-Herzegovina,"
the magistrate, Neven Camby, told reporters.
According to a spokesman for the IFOR base in Divulje, this
tragic incident is an "act of hooliganism, without any political or
other serious background."
IFOR troops were confined to barracks for several days after
the incident, but the situation is back to normal now.
The unfortunate Simon Jeans, a member of the engineering
corps, was married and had a one-year-old son.
