Lopez also demanded that local Prijedor police deliver all the
automatic weapons and rifles they had used to threaten IFOR troops
on Monday.
"If our demand is not met, IFOR will do everything to remove
the threat to the safety of its troops," Lopez's spokesman Mark van
Dyke told reporters.
"After the election, the newly-electd officials will have make
it possible for people to live in peace and stability. The police
must behave in accordance with international rules and not act like
Drljaca and his ilk - like highway robbers and criminals," Lopez
wrote.
The letter stresses superintendent Drljaca's ultimate
responsibility for Monday's incident, which involved threats
against and obstruction of IFOR personnel on duty in the Prijedor
area.
International police commissioner Peter Fitzgerald has also
called for Drljaca's dismissal, according to UN spokesman Alexander
Ivanko.
"This man heads every black list established by every single
human rights organisation. What's enough is enough - he must be
pensioned off at once," Ivanko told a Sarajevo news conference.
