Willem said it was a great honour to be assigned, as a
relatively young ambassador, to a country which had achieved
independence five years ago, under Tudjman's leadership.
A lot had been done in the relations between the two countries
during the past five years, especially economic relations, Willem
said, expressing satisfaction with the visit of Croatian Foreign
Minister Mate Granic and Economy Minister Davor Stern to the
Netherlands which had been announced for October.
Tudjman stressed that Croatia was ready and determined to
follow the path of European democracy and to settle the debt to
Europe in the establishment of peace and new order in this region.
Returning greetings from the Dutch Queen Beatrix, President
Tudjman guaranteed the Croatian public, government and his personal
support to the Ambassador in his work.
