Sarajevo on Saturday night. #L#
The soldier had been shot on guard duty near an OSCE warehouse
containing electoral material for the oncoming elections, a
statement from the IFOR headquarters in Sarajevo said.
He had been investigating the warehouse surroundings after a
report that an unidentified person had entered the premises. He was
shot to death on an armoured vehicle while he was lighting up the
area around the warehouse.
According to a report from the IFOR headquarters in Sarajevo,
the assailant had not been apprehended and the motives for the
killing were still unknown.
The IFOR military police initiated an investigation last night
in order to find the perpetrator.
The warehouse, belonging to the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission, contained voting ballots for
the September 14 elections, where they had been delivered seven
days ago.
The ballots are to be transported to all polling stations
before the elections, accompanied by IFOR troops.
