ADMIRAL LOPEZ EXPRESSES WORRY OVER VIOLATIONS OF PEACE ACCORD

SARAJEVO, August 5 (Hina) - U.S. Admiral Joseph Lopez, who last week assumed the duty of commander-in-chief of the NATO-led peace implementation force (IFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Monday expressed worry in relation to recent instances of violation of the peace agreement and announced resolute measures in order to prevent such occurrences in the future. Today Lopez chaired for the first time a meeting of the Joint Military Commission for the Implementation of the Peace Agreement and said that he was particularly worried about recent discoveries of unregistered arms and equipment with all three sides in Bosnia, as well as of not-permitted flights. Lopez pointed out that IFOR would undertake "fast and resolute action" in order to prevent such violations of the Dayton agreement from occurring again. To provide security for an undisturbed holding of the forthcoming elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina was IFOR's most important duty, Lopez said. He refused to comment on a report of the London "Sunday Times" which claimed that special units of the U.S. Army were preparing an action to arrest Bosnian Serb leader and war criminal Radovan Karadzic, saying that he knew nothing about it.
