SARAJEVO, 3 August (Hina) - A representative of IFOR in Sarajevo
confirmed that a pontoon bridge at the Usora diver near Doboj had
been damaged in an explosion at about 0600 HRS on Saturday.
According to Major Bratt Boudreau, the bridge is seriously
damaged but it can still be used for pedestrian traffic. The
bridge, located on the Serb entity, closed to the demarcation
line, is one of the most important facilities on the Sarajevo-
Maglaj-Doboj road.
IFOR Spokesman Patrick Swenson warned today that tensions
were growing in the areas of čelebići and Koraja, following an
incident on Friday when local Serbs killed one Bosniak and beat
up another. Both men were working in their fields near the former
confrontation line, inside the Serb entity.
Judging that such incidents could cause heightening of tensions,
IFOR commanders organized negotiations between local Serb and
Bosniak authorities Friday and stepped up patrols by IFOR and the
international police force. According to Patrick Swenson, there
is no doubt that the incidents are connected to growing tensions
ahead of general elections.
