ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - Croatian Labour and Welfare Minister Joso
Skara on Tuesday received the UNICEF regional director for
Central and Eastern Europe, John Donohue, who was accompanied by
senior UNICEF officials in Croatia.
Donohue said he hoped that Croatia would fully apply high
Western standards regulating the protection of children's rights,
the Labour and Welfare Ministry said in a statement.
Skara said that UNICEF was the most active UN agency in Croatia
and thanked the UNICEF officials for everything UNICEF had done
for Croatian children, particularly during Serbian aggression.
Skara informed the guests about Croatian government efforts to
bring national legislation on the protection of children in
accord with that of democratic countries, in which UNICEF could
be of great help.
Skara described as very successful the cooperation between
UNICEF and the Croatian government in the implementation of
UNICEF-approved projects.
Skara said that UNICEF could also contribute to the peaceful
reintegration of the Serb-occupied areas of eastern Croatia.
