Cardinal Kuharic called on all believers to pray for those who
were given the task of leading the state and its people, and to
build the country with joint efforts. 'Let us remember all those
who gave their lives and wounds, all displaced people who are
waiting for the return, and let us pray for peace', Cardinal
Kuharic said.
Speaking about the relation between the church and the state,
Cardinal Kuharic said that the Church is no worldly organisation,
but a community which is dedicated to holiness and which can not be
identified with any worldly institution.
The state is an organisation of citizens, and its existence
has sense only in the general well-being. The basis of every state
is the family. The state has to guarantee just social relations,
the protection of every individual from any kind of violence.
The judiciary should ensure well-being, justice, peace and
safety of all people before law.
Today's mass in the Zagreb cathedral was attended by the head
of the state Commission for Relations With Religious Communities,
Jure Radic, parliamentary and state officials, as well as by
Opposition representatives.
