Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Antonio Cassese. #L#
The talks focused on certain regulations of the recently
adopted act on cooperation with ICTY, especially on legal
proceedings that were being conducted against persons who committed
criminal acts in the areas liberated last summer in the military
action 'Storm', Mintas-Hodak said.
Mr Cassese wanted to know what kind of criminal acts those
persons committed and whether there were any judicial verdicts yet.
He also wanted to know whether there were any cases where sentences
were being served, Mintas-Hodak said.
'The Croatian side insisted that the Court show more efficacy
in bringing to justice all those persons who committed war crimes
on the Croatian territory from 1991 onward, as well as Muslim
perpetrators', Mintas-Hodak said.
The cooperation between Croatian authorities and ICTY was
improving, Cassese said, adding that during today's meeting he
tried 'to convince Croatian authorities that it is necessary for
them to try and use their moral, political and psychological
influence on the areas in Bosnia-Herzegovina populated by Croats,
where some persons indicted by ICTY for war crimes live'.
Cassese expressed hope that Croatian authorities would
contribute to the work of ICTY in that area as well.
