BELI MANASTIR, May 21 (Hina) - Baranja, occupied area in eastern
Croatia, was on Tuesday connected to the Croatian telecommunication
system.
UN officials from their office in Zagreb called the Temporary
Administrator Jacques Klein at 11 am and made the first phone call.
In the first report over the phone, Hina's reporter reported
of Klein's statement that the demilitarization of the area is to
begin on Tuesday at 12 pm.
"We informed the UN Secretary-General of this," Klein said.
On occasion of the phone connection, Croatian vice premier
Ivica Kostovic placed a phone call to the head of the Croatian
government Office for the temporary administration for the
establishment of Croatian authority in eastern Slavonia, Baranja
and western Srijem, Ivica Vrkic.
Kostovic congratulated Klein and others who made it possible
to connect Baranja with Croatia and the world.
He stressed that this was a great step in the process of
peaceful reintegration.
Klein expressed his satisfaction that this connected people.
Vrkic also expressed his satisfaction stressing "weapons are
quiet, words have replaced it".
