PRISTINA, April 23 (Hina) - The Serb police has on Tuesday issued a statement reporting that five persons had been killed and four wounded in a number of attacks in Pristina (the capital of the southern Serb province of Kosovo with a majority population of Albanians) . The attacks had occurred in Decani, Pec, Kosovska Mitrovica and Shtimlje, the statement said. #L# Three Serbs were killed and one wounded in Monday night's attack in the Decani bistro "Cakor". At the same time, a police patrol was attacked on the Pec- Pristina road, when two police officers were wounded. Unidentified persons attacked a police vehicle Monday night on the road towards Kosovska Mitrovica, near Shipolje. According to unofficial reports, a woman being transported to a penitentiary facility was killed and one officer was wounded in the attack. Another Serb police officer died of wounds received in an attack Monday night in Shtimlje. He was shot from an automatic weapon in front of the Shtimlje police station. Although the perpetrators are still unknown, the Serb socialists in Kosovo hold the Kosovo Albanians responsible for the attacks. Some 10,000 Albanian women on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest on occasion of the Sunday killing of an Albanian student, Armend Daci, by a Serb civilian. The protest was the first one staged by Albanians since 1992 when 300,000 Albanians protested against the closing of Albanian schools. The tensions have increased in Kosovo due to the recent incidents, a statement from the Presidency of the Kosovo Democratic Union warned, stressing that the danger of open conflict was a reality and not fiction. The killing of the 20 year old student, Daci, as well as of five citizens, four of whom were Serbs, and one unidentified woman, confirm that the situation in Kosovo was taking on signs of danger. The international community and the centres of power had to speed up the resolving of the issue in Kosovo, in line with the political will of the people, the statement said. The Kosovo Informative Centre on Tuesday issued a statement saying that after "last night's incidents the mistreatment of Albanian citizens has begun," but the statement has not been substantiated.
