ZAGREB, 20 Apr (Hina) - Special Electoral Assembly of the Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ) Zagreb council was held on Saturday. Forty-five new members of the Town Council were elected. Added to the number are 21 presidents of the regional council of the Zagreb HDZ. The deputies, 188 of them, elected Zlatko Canjuga as president, Stjepan Brolich, Branko Jeren, Jurica Pavelic, Hrvoje Hitrec and Zdeslav Milas as vice-presidents, and Dinko Cutura as secretary general. The new Supervising Committee now includes Djuro Njavro, Matija Katicic, Josip Besic, Ivan Brzovic and Kristina Mihajlovic. President Canjuga said that the main goal of the newly-elected Zagreb HDZ was to win at the next elections in Zagreb. Party vice-president Mate Granic addressed the gathering stressing that the first strategic goal of Croatia and HDZ was the reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area and that it would be done by the deadline, or even before. Granic said the second strategic goal was the strengthening of the Federation of Bosnia- Herzegovina and its linking to Croatia pursuant to the Dayton Agreement. The third goal, Granic said, was the establishment and continuation of good relations with all neighboring countries. Former president Bozo Biskupic presented the activity report and stressed that in the six years of its operation Zagreb's HDZ was the foundation and spiritual leader of all most important events that marked the city of Zagreb. New president Canjuga said that special attention had to be given to resolving problems of townsmen in social, public utilities and housing sectors, employment, infrastructure, and health as well as to the care for youth, pensioners and disabled and participants in the homeland war.
