ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives on Thursday resumed Wednesday's session with a
discussion on a proposed amendment of an Act on the Organization of
Ministries and State Administration Organizations. #L#
The amendments stipulate the establishment of a Ministry of
Return and Immigration, which would be in charge of creating
conditions for the return of Croatian emigrants, as well as
immigration of foreign residents when this is in Croatia's
interest.
Also, the establishment of a new state administration for
protecting victims of war in Croatia was proposed. The protection
of war victims has so far been the duty of a number of ministries
and government offices.
The president of Parliament, Vlatko Pavletic, said that
participating at the session were representatives of the Croatian
Association of Disabled War Veterans (HVIDRA), who were interested
in this item of the agenda.
During the discussion on the latter amendment, participants
mostly supported the unifying of care for veterans, but some
expressed opinions that a better idea would be if the Croatian
Defense Ministry took on the care for war veterans, which the
HVIDRA representatives supported.
Opinions on the establishment of a return and immigrant
ministry differed. The suggestion was most largely supported by
Croatian representatives with permanent residence abroad.
MP Radimir Cacic (Croatian Peoples' Party, HNS) expressed his
opinion that such a ministry should not be set up, but that the
establishment of a ministry for preventing emigration out of
Croatia should be considered.
Cacic's suggestion caused harsh reactions and ended with a
remark aimed at him not to veer off the subject.
